We got married in the Coastal Redwoods of California, at an intimate picnic spot near Half Moon Bay. It was a very cold, very rainy, late-May day, and we wouldn’t have had it any other way. Years later, now living literally in a wooded forest, with the PNW weather… It almost feels like our wedding day was foreshadowing of our future, and I find that to be so special.
I’ll spare you from too much word-vomit, but pretty much all our decor was DIY. We got married in 2015; the height of Pinterest being a crafting hub and we made it work with a very little budget, and a three month engagement. After three years of dating… we were just so ready for the next step.
My dress was handmade and I still adore it to this day. I dreamed of a BHLDN gown but we just couldn’t swing it… so my couple-hundred dollar custom dress felt like such a dream!
Our bouquets were put together the day of, by my husband’s uncle and myself. Fluffy white peonies, olive sprigs, dusty miller and seeded eucalyptus. They were simple and delicate and just perfect for our day. My crown was an olive branch; simple and timeless.
Majority of our friends and family were coming from Sacramento and San Jose, so we made our gathering a late-morning brunch to allow for our loved ones to spend the day exploring the coast and enjoying the scenery.
Our wedding cake was a giant stack of pancakes, and we served breakfast to our guests made by our dear friend who, at the time, was pursuing the chef-life. It was so fun, quaint and perfectly sweet.
After our small, intimate reception we drove off through the woods and to the coast for our honeymoon. Those first hours and days of marriage are some of the sweetest memories. I’m beyond grateful for everyone who made our wedding such a fondly remembered time. It really was such a special season, one that I will cherish forever.
